40-Minute Indoor Jogging

Weather not cooperating? Tired of the treadmill? Join certified instructor Jessica Smith for this indoor jogging (power walking or rebounding) workout that can be done with minimal space with a variety of different levels and impact options. Alternate between power walking, jogging or try this routine on a rebounder for a fun (but effective) cardio alternative to the treadmill.

    Can you estimate a distance for this workout routine? I rarely jog outdoors, only to exercise videos! Found this one today, and I will definitely use it again! I like the simplicity of the moves and ease of following along. Thank you!!

    Dear Jessica …. Thank you. I keep coming back to this workout several times a month when the weather or schedule won’t cooperate. It is a great way to get the “runner’s high” without leaving my living room. I feel soooooo good after I do it. Please leave this on your site forever.

    Day 11, In all honesty i was SO put off by the word ‘Jogging’. I have this mentality that i can’t run or jog as i’m not fit enough. However in the email it said we could power walk and i didn’t want to miss a workout so i did it. You know, i JOGGED!! I was amazed at myself and so happy that i could keep up with the workout. THANK YOU!!!

    I am pouring sweat! I loved this workout! I’m a cardio nut, so I don’t know why I’m surprised. I tried this today b/c I tweaked a rib muscle doing burpees with what I’m now sure was VERY poor form, and still wanted a workout to stretch everything. This is going into rotation for when I want cardio, but don’t feel like killing myself doing a FitnessBlender HIIT. Thanks so much!

    The instructions at the beginning were really helpful in understanding the goal of the work-out. Also, the reminders to stay “in the zone”, since I have a tendency to push too hard and not leave enough energy for the whole work-out. πŸ™‚ The only negative for me was those repetitive synth horns in the music from 29min-32min…it seemed like they would never stop. Arrrgh….! I’ll do anything you ask Jessica, just make them stop… :0 Definitely the whole work out was a lot more fun than just walking on the treadmill. Thanks so much.

    I did this today after last week’s Resistance Band workout because I don’t want to be too sore, tackling the SuperSculpt tomorrow morning…eek! I attempted it once but felt sick, dang vitamins. I LOVED all the intensity choices with this workout, keep ’em coming Jessica. Thank you!

    checking in, jessica. this felt LONG!! . at about 20 minutes i had to cut back to low impact and then didn’t have a lot of energy for the rest of the workout. i even had to sit down a few times. did i go too strong at first? is it better to do lower impact from the beginning to keep the energy up the whole way through? any suggestions?

    I got the stomach flu the night i did this workout so my weekend was shot, however, I felt my calves all weekend! Great workout overall! Looking forward to week 3 and making up some of these workouts, don’t want to fall behind!!

    Great cardio workout! I did go back between jog and walk, but stayed mostly low impact because my knees don’t like jumping. Loved the reverse grapevine – never did that move. Challenge complete – now on to strictly strength. Have to double up for a few days because of my work schedule. THanks Jessica!

    The 40 Minute Indoor Jogging has been completed. I’m still a day behind but will be caught up by the weekend. I found the level of intensity was manageable. Thank you for a good sweat.

It’s also a brain workout for me since I’m uncoordinated….I laughed like crazy trying to jog/skip side-to-side…oh, and I knocked the printer off the desk. πŸ™‚ oops! But I burned a ton of calories.

    I’m a running and HIIT enthusiast, so I’m sorry to say that this wasn’t one of my faves. For the amount of stress on the calves, I didn’t feel challenged enough cardio-wise. I’d have preferred doing this earlier into the challenge rather than in the “Metabolism Boost” week. Nevertheless, thank you for throwing in a gentler workout in the mix–I need the reminder sometimes. One more workout done for Week 2!

    Great workout. I like that is isn’t really choreographed footwork. I like basic steps when I do my workouts. I wasn’t able to finish it because I need sleep if I plan to wake up in the morning for work, but I will definitely finish, or maybe start it over tomorrow.

    Day 11: I had to do the low impact version because my ankle is starting to hurt. I’ll baby it for awhile. It was still a good workout and my heart got to beating just fine!

    Hello cardio workout! I loved this! I really love to jog/run, but don’t love the treadmill. This was so much better than the treadmill. I liked how you added and changed the arm movements to add variety. Fun! Thanks Jessica!

    Really this one is cardio and happy to have low impact option. I can reduce the HR and protect my knees. hey i’m still 61. I have suggested it to my don who run very often

    This is my favorite workout. When not in the challenge, I do this one at least 3-4 days per week. I have jogged it, walked it and I have done this one on the rebounder. I like them all. If you are having knee pain, the bounder is great.

    just done day 11. My calfs BURN! it feels sooo good πŸ˜€ I can’t believe I’ve done it. I have exams time on Academy now, I finish projects at night, and no matter it’s midnight I do your workouts before go to bed (for four or less hours…). I was never been motivated so much before, month ago I would say “naaah, I’m tired, I’ll workout tomorrow, let’s watch desperate housewives in bed”.     The way this workout went really bummed me out as I was really looking forward to it. Running is fun!
    I should’ve known better though. Sticking with the power walk would’ve been a better idea because ever since I injured my ankle a few months ago, jumping (mainly jumping jacks and variations) and running don’t go very well. Even a penguin has a better run (exaggerating here but you catch my drift). I made it through with modifying here and there though.

    After the weights workout yesterday, my legs are so sore today I think they might fall off! I’m glad this workout loosened them up some (though I had some bad thoughts when I found out that today was jogging!).

    Due to my sore legs (I just got a treadmill desk – so some days I’m walking slowly on a treadmill up to 10 hours – and my legs are sore), I bought a foam roller. I have no idea how to use it. Want to do a video with ways to stretch and work with a roller? (And maybe another video using it to enhance exercises?)

    Not my favorite. Love the low impact options, but I was bored. I had to keep it mostly low impact (running injury) and wasn’t able to get the extra intensity the higher impact moves provide. Apparently, today I needed higher intensity (never thought I’d say or write those words). I would like to do this again when I can do the higher impact moves. I am feeling relaxed, so I’m going to do the yoga workout from week one to round out my day.

    No verbal cues, but based on what others said I will do a mostly jogging with some other footwork walking workout. Hope I can manag the whole 40 minutes with no cues without getting bored. I hope in the future you will consider more workouts like this with verbal cues included!

    I’m amazed by how quickly the 40 minutes pass. Testament of a great workout and so much more fun than a treadmill! I love the positive encouragement to work within our ability while continually supporting us to challenge ourselves and leaving us at the end of a workout feeling good about what we’ve accomplished.

    Enjoyed this indoor jogging and that there were low-impact variations. In outdoor running, there is no low-impact variations. It is either run or walk and pant.

    Whew! I’m surprised I was able to most of the high impact sets with only a few low impacts thrown in since cardio is not my best strength. Had to stop twice (briefly) for water breaks but I’m proud of myself for getting through this (was going to swap a power walk for this but decided to give it a go)! Thanks Jessica for the inspiration! I never would have attempted this if I hadn’t read all of the posts from my fellow exercisers to give me the positive attitude I needed! Thanks everyone!!! πŸ™‚

    Challenge Day 11: I did better than last time, but still I’m drenched in sweat and I’m happy about my decision to do it in the afternoon (although i don’t like to change into my workout clothes, shower and change back into my ay clothes), because I would not have had this energy in the evening and I probably would have bothered my downstairs neighbours with all the jumping.

    Loved this one! I have a muscle wasting disease that affects my legs quite badly, so have to do mostly low impact as I can’t jump or skip…..but I do manage my own version Jessica and always make sure my heart rate stays up! I won’t tell you what I look like! Ha ha. But I absolutely loved this and might do it again this evening when hubby comes in from work and does his own workout.

    This was awesome, I love the low impact options. My body was alright today but some of the exercises were a bit too much for my knees so was very glad to have them. Definitely feeling every muscle from yesterday’s workout!! πŸ˜€

    I stuck with this one – it was so energizing. I only had some issues throughout from my calves wanting to tighten too much or felt like it could run into charlie horses on both sides… so I jumped into the high impact when I felt they wouldn’t.
    Any suggestions pre-workout to help that? Otherwise, I’m a sweaty mess and feel awesome. Thanks Jessica!

    I am a sweaty mess ! I switched up low and higher impact moves. I have a rebounder so it would be fun to try it on that. The ski moves were fun and as close as I will ever get to real skiing. See you tomorrow.

    85% of this was done low impact with more steps added intentionally because the beat for a lot of it was too slow for a power walk for me anyways.

    Hi Jessica, this workout along with the interval walk/jog with your mom are my favorites. I’ve been doing these two for a while at least once a week. I absolutely love how I feel afterwards (not so much during, haha). My boyfriends did this one with me once, and he runs regularly. Let me tell you, he was in pain! πŸ˜‰ Thanks for your great work!     I did this last night (Tuesday). Switching this and the 30-minute power walk (I’ll do that one on Thursday since I’ll have less time and it will most likely be a late workout). This was challenging! I did a mix of the jogging and walking, and added some intermediate (?) shuffling in there too. Tried to do as much of the higher intensity as I could. For me, jogging in place seems harder than “regular” jogging. Great workout! Worked up a sweat and that’s not easy in my chilly basement.

    Great cardio & it definitely beats a treadmill. I like that it is not too “dancy”. Basic footwork allows you to really go with it & get in the zone for great workout.
